Description	In the fall of 1970 students go through registration in Grover Center. The spring quarter of 1970 saw "disturbances" on campus in reaction the shootings at Kent State. As tensions escalated and the National Guard arrived in Athens, President Sowle closed school with four weeks left until graduation. Students left OU under strained conditions and most did not return until the fall quarter . Grover Center was built to house physical education classes and athletic events such as basketball. Basketball moved to the Convo when it opened in fall 1968. Grover Center's facilities included basketball courts, weight rooms, saunas, showers, and locker rooms, and served as the de facto Athens community center . After an extensive renovation from 1996-2001, Grover Center was transformed into offices and classroom. Very little of the original Grover Center remains. The building currently houses College of Health and Human Services, WellWorks--the University's wellness program, and Ohio University Therapy Associates . Grover Center was named for Brandon T. Grover. "Butch" Grover was basketball coach, and served in the university administration under Presidents James and Baker. His son Brandon T. "Tad" Grover served on the Board of Trustees, 1994-2002.
